About Coach Mei Swim School

Coach Mei Swim School is a training-focused swim school dedicated to teaching swimming correctly, systematically, and with long-term development in mind.

Founded and led by Coach Mei, the school specializes in structured instruction for children and youth, guiding swimmers from foundational water skills through advanced technique and competitive readiness. Our goal is not short-term results, but solid fundamentals, correct movement patterns, and confident swimmers prepared for the next stage—whether that is competitive swimming or lifelong athletic development.

Mei Han

Founder & Head Coach

Coach Mei Han is a highly accomplished swimming professional with over 30 years of coaching and competitive training experience, spanning both China and the United States.

She began her athletic career as an elite swimmer on the Beijing Swim Team and received her formal education in Sports Training at Beijing Sport University, China’s premier institution for elite athletic development. There, she was trained under a rigorous, systematic competitive swimming framework.

After graduation, Coach Han was appointed as a professional coach for the Henan Provincial Swim Team, where she worked extensively in athlete identification, training, and long-term development at the provincial and national levels.

Contributions in the United States

In 2001, Coach Han founded Mei’s Typhoons Swim Club (MTSC) in New England, bringing her international coaching experience to the U.S. swimming community.

Under her leadership, MTSC became widely recognized as one of the region’s most successful age-group swim clubs. Her athletes have achieved consistent success at New England Swimming Championships, with many setting regional records, earning championship titles, and qualifying for national-level competitions, including Junior Nationals.

Numerous MTSC swimmers have gone on to compete at NCAA Division I and Ivy League universities, reflecting the long-term effectiveness of her training approach.
In recognition of her contributions, Coach Han was honored as New England Swim Coach of the Year in 2005.

Coaching Philosophy

Coach Han’s philosophy is rooted in decades of competitive training experience:

  • Correct technique must be taught from the very beginning

  • Technical structure and body control come before speed

  • Long-term progress depends on precise, repeatable fundamentals

By applying elite training standards to foundational instruction, Coach Mei helps young swimmers develop strong, efficient technique that supports both competitive success and lifelong swimming ability.

A Family Grounded in High-Level Sport

Coach Mei Swim School is shaped by a family deeply rooted in competitive athletics and elite training environments.

Coach Mei and Coach Li’s two daughters were both high-level competitive swimmers and graduates of Harvard University, where they competed on the Harvard varsity swimming team. During their collegiate careers, they collectively set eight Harvard swimming records, reflecting years of disciplined training and technical excellence.

Beyond swimming, the family has also been involved in elite competition at the national level in other sports, reinforcing a shared understanding of what long-term athlete development truly requires.

This perspective informs every class we teach.
